  • The 71st British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs, were held on 18 February 2018 at the Royal Albert HallinLondon, honouring the best national and foreign films of 2017. Presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, accolades were handed out for the best feature-length film and documentaries of any nationality that were screened at British cinemas in 2017. Following revelations of sexual harassment in the film industry, many attendees wore black or a badge to show their support for the Time's Up movement.[1]

The nominees were announced on 9 January 2018 by actresses Natalie Dormer and Letitia Wright.[2] The Shape of Water received the most nominations in twelve categories; Darkest Hour and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri followed with nine each.[3] As with the 75th Golden Globe Awards, there was criticism for the lack of female nominees for Best Director, with Greta Gerwig notably not nominated for Lady Bird.[4]

English actress Joanna Lumley hosted the ceremony for the first time, replacing Stephen Fry following his twelve years of service as host.[5]
