It has sometimes been included as a subspeciesofA. iridescens, but recent authorities recognize them as separate species.[2] M. longipinnis reaches at least 38 cm (15 in) in length.[2] Juveniles are pale yellowish with 5–6 narrow dark bars, but in adults (over 11 cm or 4.3 in long) the dark bars are broad.[2]
