Atkinson was born in 1967 and studied at the University of Birmingham, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1989. He trained for ordained ministry at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, an evangelical Anglican theological college, from 2005 to 2007.[1]
Atkinson was ordained in the Church of England as a deacon in 2007 and as a priest in 2008. After a curacy in Shadwell, he was VicarofBethnal Green for 9 years.[1] He was Mission Director for the Two Cities area from 2019 until his appointment as an archdeacon.[2] In March 2020, he was appointed Archdeacon of Charing Cross.[3]
