Ardabil County (Persian: شهرستان اردبیل) is in Ardabil province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Ardabil.[3]

History

After the 2006 National Census, Sareyn District was separated from the county in the establishment of Sareyn County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Sareyn as its capital and only city at the time.[4] Gharbi Rural District was separated from the Central District to form Samarin District, which was divided into two rural districts, including the new Dujaq Rural District.[5]

After the 2016 census, the villages of Arallu[6] and Samarin[7] were elevated to city status.

At the time of the 2006 census, the county's population was 542,930 in 131,950 households.[8] The following census in 2011 counted 564,365 people in 156,242 households.[9] The 2016 census measured the population of the county as 605,992 in 180,975 households.[2]
