Asphondylia amaranthi is a species of gall midge in the family Cecidomyiidae.[1]
The larvae of this species induce galls on the fruit of Amaranthus blitoides.[1][2] Though its host plant is widespread in North America[3] this gall midge species has only been reported from Texas and Florida in the United States and TamaulipasinMexico.[1]
It was first described by American entomologist Ephraim Porter Felt in 1935.[1][2]
