Balaenella is an extinct genusofbalaenid from the early Pliocene of the vicinity of Antwerp, Belgium. Its type speciesisBalaena brachyrhynchus.
A cladistic analysis of Balaenidae places Balaenella as the sister taxon of the bowhead whale in a clade separate from right whales.[1]
