Bandar-e Dayyer (Persian: بندر دير)[a] is a city in the Central DistrictofDeyr County, Bushehr province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.[4]
The 2006 census showed the population as 18,454 in 3,882 households.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 20,157 people in 4,890 households.[6] The census in 2016 showed a population of 24,083 people in 6,680 households.[2] Bandar-e Deyr was a prominent commercial port in the Persian Gulf,[7] and the Jewish settlers were dominating the local market[8]
Some historians believe that Dandar Deyr during the 13th century was exclusively inhabited by Jews.[9] In the 19th century Lorimer stated that the population is about 5500 souls, including some Jews.[10] The Jewish community during the 19th century had an estimated population of 20 to 50 families.[11]
