Doctor Robert William Irvine, (1853–1897) nicknamed "Bulldog",[2] was a Scotland international rugby football player.[3]
He played for Edinburgh Academicals.[3]
He represented Edinburgh District against Glasgow District in the Inter-City matches; and played in the first match in 1872.
He represented East of Scotland District against West of Scotland Districtin1876.[4]
He was capped 13 times for Scotland between 1871 and 1880,[3] including the first ever rugby international.[5]
He was the brother of Duncan Irvine who was also capped for Scotland.[3]
