C. V. Ananda Bose is an Indian retired 1977-batch IAS officer, who has been serving as the Governor of West Bengal since 23 November 2022.[2]

Early life & education[edit]

Ananda Bose was born on 2 January 1951 at Mannanam, Kerala. He attended Kuriakose Elias College, Mannanam,[3] and St. Berchmans College, Changanassery.[4] He holds a Ph.D from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani.[5]

Indian Administrative Service[edit]

Ananda Bose joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1977. He worked as District magistrate, and Principal Secretary and Additional Chief secretary in various ministries such as Education, Forest and Environment, Labour, and General Administration.

As the Administrator of the National Museum, Bose launched a 100-day programme which spelt out specific measures to revamp and revitalise the institution. Most of the improvements suggested were achieved in 60 days, such as opening the closed down galleries, modernising the display and lighting, launching outreach programmes to take the Museum to the community, arranging children's programme to ignite young minds to the greatness of India's national heritage, organising international exhibitions and launching the People's Museum movement, to mention a few.[6]

Bose is a Fellow of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, and has received the Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship.

Personal life[edit]

Dr. Bose has 350 publications to his credit, including 70 books, consisting of novels, short stories and poems in Malayalam, Hindi, English and now in Bengali also.[7][8]

Governor of West Bengal[edit]

On 17 November 2022, Bose was appointed Governor of West Bengal by President Droupadi Murmu.[9]

Controversy[edit]

On 2 May 2024 Bose was accused of sexual harassment by a woman contractual staff of Raj Bhavan, Kolkata.[10] The woman alleged that the Governor had “molested” her on 24 April 2024.[11] Bose completely denied the issue as maligning for political mileage during the 2024 Indian general election[12] and hit back saying “truth would triumph,” and he would not be “cowed down by engineered narratives".[13][14] The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) also questioned the connections of the women with the governing Trinamool Congress.[15] The woman filed her complaint which was forwarded to the Hare Street Police station.[16][17] Kolkata Police set up an investigation team and have sought CCTV footages.[18]
