Canelas is a municipality in the Mexican stateofDurango. The municipal seat lies at Canelas. The municipality covers an area of 683.4 km².
As of 2015[update], the municipality had a total population of 4,683.[1] It is located in the Sierra Madre Occidental.
Canelas has some 70 small villages and ranches.[2] Some of these locations have sawmills and produce wood. This region of Durango has a variety of minerals. These two natural resources provide many people with jobs in Canelas.[citation needed]
