This category is intended for use in biographical entries which indicate the individual's year of death, but not the month and day, due to lack of research, availability in a reliable source or notation in the relevant article. In the case of long-ago historical figures whose precise year of death is on record, but the month and day have been lost to history and will never likely be known, please use Category:Date of death unknown. This category and Category:Year of death missing, which denotes absence of the year, as well as the month and the day, are intended to be mutually exclusive.
