Early life[edit]

Margono was born in Mount Kisco, New York, United States on November 9, 2001. His father was born in Bali and raised in Surabaya, East Java. His mother is from Iran.[3] On March 21, 2024, Cyrus Margono officially became an Indonesian citizen after taking the oath of allegiance.[4]

Margono attended high school in Sleepy Hollow, New York. After graduation in 2019, he continued his education at University of Denver, where he played college soccer for a year. He then moved to University of Kentucky.[5]

Club career[edit]

Panathinaikos B[edit]

In 2015, Margono trained with the youth academy of Italian Serie A side Inter.[6] In 2021, he signed for Panathinaikos B in Greece.[7] On April 16, 2022, he debuted for Panathinaikos B during a 3–0 loss to Levadiakos.[8]

Margono is eligible to represent the United States, Indonesia, and Iran internationally through his birth and his parents.[9]

Personal life[edit]

On 21 March 2024, Margono officially established his Indonesian citizenship.[10] Born to an Indonesian father and an Iranian mother in the United States, he was a limited dual national of both the United States and Indonesia. His Indonesian citizenship was revoked at the age of 21, because he did not declare it before the time limit. He obtained an affidavit from the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights and Ministry of the State Secretariat to re-declare his Indonesian citizenship.[11]
