Drew Commesso (born July 19, 2002) is an American professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing for the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Blackhawks in the second round, 46th overall, of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career[edit]

Youth[edit]

Commesso competed for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.[1]

College[edit]

Commesso played for the Boston University Terriers, where he was the starting goaltender.[2] He was selected in the second round by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.[3]

Professional[edit]

Commesso joined the Rockford IceHogs, Chicago's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, in 2023. He made his first career AHL start on October 13 in a 7–2 victory over the San Jose Barracuda. Commesso led the IceHogs in almost every goaltending statistic during his first year in the AHL. He finished the season with an 18–16–3–1 record, along with a 2.65 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.[4]

International play[edit]

Commesso competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics, where he became the youngest starting goaltender in United States history.[5] In his debut against China, he earned a shutout while recording 29 saves.[6]

Commesso was also on the roster at the 2019 IIHF World U18 Championships, 2021 IIHF World Championship, 2022 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, and 2023 IIHF World Championship.[7][8]
