Emily Rose Moxley (born October 29, 2000) is an American professional soccer player who is a defender for Carolina Ascent FC of the USL Super League. She played college soccer for the UNC Wilmington Seahawks and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Early life[edit]

Moxley was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of four children of Jennifer Moxley.[1] She played two seasons of high school soccer for Panther Creek High School, earning all-region honors as a freshman and sophomore.[3][4] She played club soccer for the NC Courage Academy.[3]

College career[edit]

As a freshman, Moxley was a starting forward at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2019.[1] In her first two games, she scored two goals and was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive Player of the Week.[5] She finished the season with five goals and a team-best eight assists and was named to the CAA All-Rookie team.[1] She played with Oak City United, an amateur Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) club based in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2021.[6]

Moxley transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a starting defender and midfielder from 2021 to 2023.[3] She recorded two assists in a 2–0 win over her former team, Wilmington, in August 2022.[3][7] In the 2022 ACC tournament, she scored the winning penalty kick in the semifinals and was named to the all-tournament team.[3][8] She assisted Julia Dorsey on a free kick for the game winner in the semifinals of the 2022 NCAA tournament.[9] She finished her career at North Carolina with 17 assists in three seasons.[3]

Professional career[edit]

After going undrafted in the 2024 NWSL Draft, Moxley trained with the Orlando Pride in February 2024.[10] She was then signed by Charlotte's new Carolina Ascent FC in May 2024.[11]
