Encounter with Werther (German: Begegnung mit Werther) is a 1949 West German historical drama film directed by Karl-Heinz Stroux and starring Horst Caspar, Heidemarie Hatheyer and Paul Klinger.[1] It is based on the writing of the 1774 novel The Sorrows of Young WertherbyJohann Wolfgang von Goethe.[2] It was released to commemorate the writer's second hundredth birthday in August 1949.

It was shot at the Bavaria StudiosinMunich and on locationinLimburg, Wetzlar and Marburg an der Lahn. The film's sets were designed by the art director Paul Markwitz.
