Fengqi You (Chinese: 尤峰崎; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Iû Hong-khi) is a professor and holds the Roxanne E. and Michael J. Zak Chair at Cornell University in the United States.[1][2] His research focuses on systems engineering and data science.[3] According to Google Scholar, his h-index is 82.[4]

Career[edit]

Fengqi You completed his undergraduate studies at Tsinghua University, and received his Ph.D. in 2009 from Carnegie Mellon University.[5][6][7] After working at Argonne National Laboratory and Northwestern University, he moved to Cornell University, where he holds positions in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research and Information Engineering, Applied Information Systems, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.[8] He is Cornell Energy Institute's associate director,[9] co-director of Cornell Institute of Digital Agriculture,[10] and Chair of Ph.D. Studies in Cornell Systems Engineering.[11] He co-directs Cornell University AI for Science Institute (CUAISci) and co-leads the Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at Cornell with Carla Gomes.[12][13]

You is an associate editor of Science Advances,[14] an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology,[15] and editor of Computers & Chemical Engineering.[16] He is a member of the editorial boards of ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering,[17] AIChE Journal,[18] and Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research.[19]

Teaching and research[edit]

Fengqi You teaches courses on computational optimization, machine learning, deep learning,[20] quantum computing and artificial intelligence,[21] and process design.[22] He developed a graduate certificate program on Computational and Data Science.[23] There are news media reports about his research on quantum artificial intelligence,[24] renewable energy transition,[25] smart energy systems,[26] solar energy materials,[27] electric vehicle batteries,[28] water management,[29] climate impacts of hybrid events and metaverse,[30] carbon neutrality,[31][32] microplastics,[33] plastics and medical waste recycling,[34] carbon footprint accounting,[35] crypto,[36] the environmental effects of bitcoin,[37] and AI in Science.[38]
