The film starts off with Vaishakan, an aspiring film director, telling his dreadful story to a film producer named Achayan who tells him that the story is not worthy of being a film and that he cannot produce it.
He has a government job but gets suspended for not submitting files as required. He decided to focus on his film during this period as he was only working in the office because his late father insisted. People refused to hear his film script and taunted him for his lack of sincerity at work as well as his failure in being a director. People even protested in front of the office for him to be dismissed. The Head intervened and announced that he shall take a five-year leave without pay.
After this, the film shows the jovial life of Priyadarshan, a village simpleton who lives doing all the work around the rubber farm, and grows and sells fruits and vegetables. He also teaches in a nearby high school, taking tuitions to meet hus family's basic needs. His father had committed suicide due to financial trouble and the family finds it difficult to marry off his sister. He promises his mother that he will pay off all those loans. He then receives an employment letter on being temporarily appointed at the Taluk Office replacing Vaishakan on a leave vacancy and is overjoyed. Priyadarshan is overly sincere in his work and goes beyond his job. He starts cleaning the office. The city people find his ways amusing. He then meets his humorous roommate, Kannappan in his lodge. Priyadarsan talks in a peculiar slang too and is highly idealistic. He falls in love with Meera who lives next door thinking she is the maid, but in reality, she is the daughter of the house.
One day, Vaishakan comes in the office saying he has dropped his dreams of being a director and wants to cancel his leave and resume his job there. Priyadarshan becomes upset and goes to see Vaishakan and promises to help him get a producer. He makes changes in Vaishakan's script by making it a heart touching story about a father and a son who live in a poor household. Achayan agrees to produce the new story. Thereon, Priyadarshan and Meera meet quite often. One evening Meera's father informs her that his friend's son and family are coming over to see her for a proposal. Meera gets worried and refuses to get married. Revathy tells Meera's father about Priyadarshan and he is unhappy.
Priyadarshan gets upset and goes to his office asking some if his co-workers want to accompany him to Meera's house to show Meera's father that he has people who care for him too. (Priyadarshan still believes Meera is a poor maid at that house.) There, the Head tells Meera's father that it is not right to marry off the maid to a wealthy man. Meera's father says that Meera is his daughter and she's not a maid. Priyadarshan did not believe it, until Meera admits it. Hearing this, Priyadarshan is in tears and asks her, "so you were cheating me, weren't you?" He apologizes to Meera's father. While Priyadarshan is about leave, he says with tears in his eyes that he has never lied to anyone and that he does not have many dreams, but marrying Meera was the only dream in his life, which has been destroyed. He leaves saying that he will not come to disturb them again.
Then there is a confusion like Vyshakhan developing a liking for Revathy thinking she is the daughter of the house. Vaishakan comes to Meera's house asking for Revathy's hand, but leaves when he realises she is not the daughter of the house.
Achayan asked Priyadarshan to direct the film. He tells him that he knew the script that was presented to him was Priyadarshan's story and Achayan offers some money in advance for him to do the film. Also, Achayan says that Malayalam Cinema needs directors with good will. Priyadarshan replies if he takes this money and do this film, he'll have the money to pay back his father's loan but he would not be a person if he takes away the film from Vaishakan. The latter realizes Priyadarshan has a pure heart. Priyadarshan then leaves to his home in Thonakkad and while there, he gets annoyed by comments by local people that he cheated the girl in the city. When reaching home, he sees Revathy, the one saying that she is his girl except he denied it. He realized that he did not fall in love with Meera as she was a poor maid, but for the person she is. He sees a crowd of people and one man says that we all know that she is not his girl as they make way for Meera, her father, Vaishakan, the Head and Achayan. The Head says that Priyadarshan fell in love with Meera thinking that she was poor but she loved him knowing that he is poor which shows she is in love with him more than he is in with her. Then Priyadarshan and Meera are seen going back to the city (implying that they got married) and there, Vaishakan's car and production crew passes by. Vaishakan and Achayan wave at them and they wave back as the film ends.
Boban Samuel directed the film, which was produced by Mammen John, Reena M. John, with story, screenplay, and dialogues by Krishna Poojapura, and music by R. Gautham, Pradeep Nair did the cinematography, editing was done by V. T. Sreejith, Manu Jagadh did the art direction, the designs were by Jissen Paul and stills by Mahadevan Thampy. The film was distributed by Kalasangham Release.
Principal photography began on 26 January 2011 in Kochi and Thodupuzha.
The film was released on 20 May 2011.
The film was commercial success.[2]

The soundtrack of the film was released on 12 May 2011. It had music scored by R. Gautham. Lyrics were provided by Santhosh Varma, Manju Vellayani. There was no special launch for the audio release and the music were given straight through the audio sellers.
