Eleven years later, Pope John Paul II appointed him as the Coadjutor ArchbishoptoArchbishop Patrick Cronin of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro.[2] Upon Cronin's retirement, Tuquib succeeded as Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro.
