Johanna Baxter is a Scottish politician.

Baxter was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Paisley and Renfrewshire Southin2024.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Born in Saltcoats, Baxter became a union rep at 18. Baxter funded her way through university by working at a call centre.

Career[edit]

Baxter served as head of local Government for Unison Scotland.[2] She was Chair of the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party in 2022-2023 and continues to be a member.[3]

Political views[edit]

Baxter has promoted the idea of additional spending to the NHS in order to cut waiting times and doctor's consultations in the NHS. She supports creating a "National Clinical Council" to delegate information to government ministers along with reducing the amount of bureaucratic measures in the NHS.[4]

In regards to environmental policies, she backs the proposal of creating a publicly owned company in energy called Great British Energy as outlined by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.[5]
