The journal primarily publishes empirical research on applied psychology in different domains of life, and contains sections that include case studies, book reviews, and letters to the editor.[1]
The journal was established in 1964, two years after the founding of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology (IAAP) in 1962.[1] In 2012, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the IAAP, the journal began publishing articles online in advance of print publication.[1] The print edition currently consists of two issues per year, published in January and July.[1]
The journal's website also lists it as indexed in Indian Psychological Abstracts & Reviews,[6]
an abstracting service published as a journal through 2011.[7]

The current publishing status of this journal and database is difficult to determine from the website (3 July 2016). However, it was possible to verify that JIAAP is listed as indexed several places, such as here (2011) and here (2012), with coverage claimed to extend past 2011. However, extent and nature of current indexing was difficult to determine.
