Club career

[edit]

Early career

Velasco started his youth career with Deportivo Cali but, after being promoted to the first team in January 2017, he received few opportunities. He left to join Cúcuta Deportivo in the Categoría Primera B.[2]

After returning to Deportivo Cali, he struggled to break into the first team under the management of Gerardo Pelusso. After Pelusso's sacking in 2018, he started to play more often under new manager Lucas Pusineri.

By 2021, Velasco was a key part of the Rafael Dudamel’s team as they won the Torneo Apertura competition, defeating Deportes Tolima in the final.[3][4]

Club Puebla

[edit]

On 21 May 2023, Deportivo Cali announced that they had reached an agreement with Liga MX club Puebla for a loan with an option to buy.[5]

International career

On 24 May 2022, interim coach Héctor Cárdenas called up Velasco to the Colombian national football team.[6] He made his international debut on 5 June in a 1–0 victory against Saudi Arabia.[7]
