By April 12, protests had spread to other locations in the United States. Many demonstrations were part of the Black Lives Matter movement.

After a jury trial in a Minnesota district court, Kimberly Potter, the police officer who fatally shot Wright, was convicted of first-degree and second-degree manslaughter charges on December 23, 2021.[4]
