Mari-Lynn Poskin is an American politician serving as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from the 20th district. Originally elected in November 2020, she assumed office on January 11, 2021.

Early life and education[edit]

Poskin was born in Merced, California. After attending the University of Southern California, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English, psychology, and education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.[1]

Career[edit]

Poskin has worked as a grant writer for the Northern Illinois Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse. From 2005 to 2014, she was an information and resource specialist at the Johnson County Community College. She has also had experience as a small business owner and a higher education director.[2] Since 2017, Poskin has worked as freelance education consultant.

Poskin was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in November 2020, where she was endorsed by President Barack Obama.[3] She assumed office on January 11, 2021.[4][5] She was reelected in 2022.

As a Representative, Poskin serves on the committees for Commerce, Labor, and Economic Development; Financial Institutions and Pensions; K-12 Education Budget; and Veterans and Military. She has written and introduced several bills, including HB 2626, which doubled the appropriations to the KS Teacher Service Scholarship.[6] Her district represents parts of Leawood and parts of Overland Park.[7]

Personal life[edit]

Poskin lives in Leawood with her husband, David.[10] They have seven children and three grandchildren.[11]
