Mianwali Division is a proposed administrative division of Punjab province, Pakistan. Mianwali city would be the capital of the division. According to the 2017 Census of Pakistan, the total population of the division would be 8.18 million.[2] Punjabi is mostly spoken in the districts of this division .There would be a Thal Desert in this division which extends to the district Mianwali, Bhakkar , Layyah, Muzaffargarh. But there are also widespread demands and proposals for creating a Thal Division, with headquarters in district Bhakkar, instead of it. As District Bhakkar is located geographically in the middle of both district Mianwali and district Layyah and it is also a notable district of this region.

Before 1981, Bhakkar was a tehsil of Mianwali, which was later given district status and Kalurkot Tehsil was also given to Bhakkar.

On January 14, 2023, CM Pervaiz Elahi announced that Mianwali District upgraded to Divisional status..[3][4]
