Missouri Conservationist
A horse-drawn wagon dumps a large cube of soil into the Mississippi River. The cube is labeled "One cubic mile of the richest top soil in the world." On top of the soil is an old top-hatted and bearded man with a shovel, labeled "Old Man Carelessness." A sign on the left shows the soil is on its way to the Gulf of Mexico. Also on the left are a group of men representing the U.S. Flood Commission, witnessing the dumping while another old top-hatted and bearded man is trying to get the group's attention by jumping up and down and pointing to the dump truck.

The Missouri Conservationist is a monthly periodical published by the Missouri Department of Conservation.[1] It was first published in 1938 by the department's predecessor, the Missouri Conservation Commission.[2] The magazine focuses on educating the general public on issues pertaining to the conservation and management of Missouri’s natural resources.

The magazine is free to all residents of the State of Missouri. The cost of its production and postage is supported by a portion of the statewide conservation sales tax.[3] Non-residents can subscribe for a fee. All issues since July 1995 are published online by the Missouri Department of Conservation.[4] Angie Daly Morfeld is the editor as of July 2017. The magazine has an ISSN number of 0026-6515.[5]
