column widths and other adjustments

[edit]

Hello @Muboshgu, Frietjes, and Zacchaeusbarbour: I'm not sure why the edits on June 29 and 30 were reverted. Can all of you describe the issues you were resolving and provide sample pages, so I can have a look? In my browser, the modified column widths result in the "V T E" menu encroaching on the space for the division name, so maybe just the overall table width can be adjusted without changing the percentages? isaacl (talk) 04:04, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, this is what I saw before I made my edit, and my edit fixed the problem. So, since I gave a reason for making the edit and this reverter said nothing, I'm restoring my fix. – Muboshgu (talk) 06:09, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I see what you mean about the V T E menu. Got any ideas on how to fix that? – Muboshgu (talk) 06:13, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
On a mobile browser I presume? In that case the width can't be made any wider. I'll look into it... isaacl (talk) 12:33, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
you might try adding |class=nowrap where necessary? Frietjes (talk) 13:06, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was about to say exactly the same thing, VTE was encroaching the text, which was why I reverted it.Z.I. Barbour (talk) 16:02, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Isaacl: Not a mobile browser, on my laptop. The way I just edited it now worked for the way I browse. I can check mobile as well to see if it works there. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:25, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have not seen the same issue as you with the win-loss record breaking onto two lines. Is this something new, or have the standings tables always looked like this? Do all of them have the same issue? Have you set a larger default font size? (However, since the table is sized relative to the font size, it should in theory scale up accordingly.) A wider table width may help. (I forgot that tables wider than the viewport on mobile devices will scroll left-right, so the wider width will still help there). isaacl (talk) 20:07, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Winning percentage starting with 0.

[edit]

@Muboshgu:Somebody should remove 0. in winning percentage as no MLB standings show winning percentages with leading 0 outside of Wikipedia. The leading 0 wasn't always there, why somebody add the zero before the decimal point? Seeing the leading zero in winning percentages irritates me. PlanetStar 05:24, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Centralizing the standings

[edit]

I made my statement clear in the Module:Sports table talk page that we should centralize all of the standings over there, so if it's possible, can we just merge it over to that module instead? –Piranha249 (talk) 18:17, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Module:Sports table has some interesting output options. However a new style would be required for baseball, with multiple output formats for the different types of tables supported by this module, so it's not "just" a merge. In addition the input format is different, so either existing uses of {{MLB standings}} would have to be modified, or Module:Sports table would have to be modified to support a new input format. Any of this is possible but requires people interested in doing the work. isaacl (talk) 20:02, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fix W/L redirects

[edit]

In the header row, "W" & "L" redirect to Win–loss record (pitching), which is an inappropriate link. Seeing as there is not an article on TEAM wins/losses, and the only appropriate article I could find is already linked to in "Pct.," I believe it would be best to remove the links from W & L and instead replace with:

{{abbr|W|Games won}} & {{abbr|L|Games lost}}

I have no experience editing a module, so I was hoping someone could review this & implement it. Rgrds. --Bison X (talk) 20:22, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comment. Please start a conversation at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Baseball to see what other interested editors think. I would appreciate it! isaacl (talk) 20:41, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Table width

[edit]

Regarding these changes: is there a use where the table size caused a team name to wrap, or some other visual oddity? I'm not necessarily against widening the table, but given the number of places where it gets transcluded, I'm wary of making it much wider than it needs to be. isaacl (talk) 15:04, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion regarding table width and font

[edit]

See discussion I started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Baseball#Template:MLB standings look a bit broken now. Wikipedia's new standard font size has more or less ruined the current format. Spesh531(talk, contrib., ext.) 14:47, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
