I am glad to see that you kept the statistics, although they weren't what I was talking about exactly. But maybe, from them, we could get what I wanted to look at.
The key for me is not how fast an individual admin candidate's edit count grows over time. It's how many edits they had at the time of an RfA (yes, some candidates having multiple RfAs does complicate things a bit). That, I'd like to see plotted into some sort of visual. At least with the most simplistic data, we could see if there's a point where a successful candidacy becomes more likely and maybe see if that's the point at which we might offer candidates the chance to forego the two days' discussion.
I suppose in the future we might also look at, say, the portions of the candidates' edits by namespace at the time of the RfA and see if that has any effect. Daniel Case (talk) 05:37, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, my data collection was a initial rough approximation of an editor's tenure at the time they became an admin. I chose to measure the start of that tenure by the first year when their edits exceeded a threshold, and looked at thresholds based on total edits and on talk page edits. The idea is that an editor's formative experiences start once they begin engaging with others to a higher degree. I also arbitrarily chose a threshold number of edits below which an editor is considered to be away from the project. Accordingly the number of active years can be roughly measured by length of tenure minus years away during that tenure.
As I mentioned, because those who commented previously didn't appear that interested, due to the large variability of each individual editor's circumstances, I wasn't motivated to try to refine the data to a more granular level (such as the exact time when editors made a request for administrative privileges), or to chart the data. If you wanted to look into it further, that would be great. I like it that way because it provides a reference for where the deleted text was removed. (The diff is technically correct as it shows the text on the left, including the comma at the end, being replaced with just the comma.) Ideally, the first of these examples should instead highlight "Example sentence 2" as that was the text I had selected and removed. The template can't read my mind, though; the only way to include this information is to change the output manually.
Yeah, the template/module doesn't show the same as MediaWiki. Special:Diff/1233274569 looks different in the "source" diff. I found that I was causing problems when I didn't use "</div>". In fact, I needed to add "|}" like you said. I knew there was something else but I never asked. I won't be going back and fixing all those templates that now end with "</div>", but if I can fix the ones I have posted recently, I will. I don't know what templates to which you are referring. Are you referring to a page in the Template namespace, or a page in any namespace that you are transcluding using {{page name}}? Yes, I'm aware of the conversation in which I responded to you. I don't know how you made this edit. Did you enter {{subst:some template name|some parameters}}? If so, then the template {{some template name}} should balance all opening and closing tags, as well as opening and closing table characters. Did you copy and paste the wikitext from somewhere else and make modifications? Typically, to avoid confusion with pages in the Template namespace, it's better not to call this a template. It would be nice, but it would be too hard to go back in my contributions and find all the cases where I used this particular template. To answer the question about why I found one problem and not the other, I had to go back a year. Fortunately, it's mostly IPs and others who never come back and never get any other messages. The bot probably transcluded a page from the Template namespace (or possibly a subpage of the Teahouse page?) using the {{subst:...}} syntax. It would be better for you to do the same, since the template presumably is properly closing all elements.
