Norman Jack Thompson (born March 5, 1945) is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Baltimore Colts.

Thompson attended Galileo High School in San Francisco. After transferring to the University of Utah from Laney (CA) Junior College, Thompson broke two NCAA records while becoming a two-time All-WAC selection.[1] Thompson was the first defensive player from the University of Utah to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.

In 1977, Thompson became the first free agent in NFL history to sign with another team, when he went to the Colts from the Cardinals. Upon retirement in 1979, Thompson was credited with 33 career interceptions.[2]
