A village youth, Tamin, was persuaded by Japanese propaganda and became heiho. He moved to Burma during World War II as a member of the red cross. When Japan collapsed, Tamin and his friends were brought to Java to be handed over to the Dutch troops who were trying to re-colonize Indonesia. He was forced to be a KNIL soldier to fight against his own country. After the Indonesian National Revolution, Tamin moved back to his village. Unable to stand being teased by his friends, he then moved to the city and reunited with his friend who became Indonesian soldier. Tamin was advised by his friends that he could still contribute to the country by fulfilling independence in their respective fields and later he returned to his village and homeland.
