Source for technical specifications:[1]

Southern Pacific 1293 is an S-14 class 0-6-0 steam locomotive built by Lima Locomotive Works.[2] It was dedicated to the City of Tracy, California, on August 8, 1958,[3] by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company (now Union Pacific Railroad).

Current status[edit]

After Southern Pacific retired 1293 in 1957,[4] SP donated the locomotive for display in Dr. Powers Park in Tracy, California. It remains there to this day[when?] on static display, subject to deterioration caused by vandalism and exposure to weather.[5]

  • ^ A series of photographs of the locomotive taken in 2012 show signs of extensive rust and decay, and evidence of graffiti that has been painted over. An effort by a local group to move and cosmetically restore the locomotive has yet to take place, as of February 2019. Refer to the Railtown Tracy article about SP 1293 for photographs and additional details.
