Springdale is an unincorporated communityinCass County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 55 in 2000.

History[edit]

The area in what is known as Springdale today was said to be settled in the late 1840s and was originally named Forest Home. A post office was established at Springdale in January 1850 and remained in operation until 1938. John W. Moore served as postmaster. It experienced an interruption after the American Civil War through May 1877. The post office changed its name from Springdale to Forest Home three times throughout the decade, until it ultimately settled on Springdale upon its closure. The heavily wooded community had 75 residents and three sawmills in 1884. The population ranged from 50 to 75 through the 1960s. The settlement had 30 residents served by a church, a cemetery, and two small businesses in 1983 and remained at that level in 1990. The number of residents went up to 55 in 2000.[2]
