Year in topic

[edit]

As per discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Years the year in topic paragraph is scheduled to be deleted as it largely duplicates the links in the top box, and is not consistent with other year. Any objections should be made on that page please --BozMo|talk 19:31, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Restored 12 event month subheaders

[edit]

02-Jan-2008: I have restored the 12 event-month subheaders as "January" / "February"/etc. They match the 12 months in the compact Table-of-Contents. Editing to restore the format of year-articles has to be performed every few months due to the ease of hacking articles to change the subheaders to become anything, and wiki software cannot yet control/restrict the internal format of an article. -Wikid77 (talk) 14:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If wiki software locked partial articles

[edit]

02-Jan-2008: If wiki software could lock an article's subheader format, then random hacking of article subheaders could be avoided. Such locking would be analogous to semi-protected templates, but would restrict access to parts of articles, rather than external templates. A possible simple implementation would be simply to diff-compare another file (call it an article baseline) containing a series of text lines to ensure those lines still matched the edited file (in the same line order), during edit-preview, and before saving. Users could experiment with any changes, but would be warned or prevented from saving the hacked file. In warning mode, other editors editing a file would again see the warnings (in edit-preview mode) to allow them to restore the non-matching parts of an article: such a warning mode would not prevent saving changes, but would allow a balance of freedom and control. Again, such a capability would be easy to implement, but the main issue is just getting people to think of radical new methods for wiki software to work, even if those new ideas would be trivial to implement. -Wikid77 (talk) 14:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Charles Creighton?

[edit]

July 26 links to Charles Creighton, but it seems to be the wrong one, as the person linked to died in 1927. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.36.110.74 (talk) 15:06, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removed the link. Wrong Charles Creighton, however the trip appears to be a historical fact, so I left the event in. Couldn't find anything else on Wikipedia to link this to. Ruralgal (talk) 21:16, 15 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

During several automated bot runs the following external link was found to be unavailable. Please check if the link is in fact down and fix or remove it in that case!
