Falklands/Malvinas

[edit]

I changed Malvinas to Falklands however have been reverted by Jetstreamer (talk · contribs). My reasons for the change are simple: as Malvinas is simply a redirect to Falkland Islands, then state the actual article name. However on top of that the name of the islands are officially known as the Falkland Islands, and on the English Wikipedia that is how they are referred too, not "Malvinas" or "Falklands/Malvinas", except when someone is trying to POV on the issue. In fact this talk page makes it clear that the article is written in British English, and Malvinas is not the term used in it for those islands.

Jetstreamer quoted WP:UNBROKEN for the revert, however the examples given in it of links that don't need fixing clearly shows that that is an invalid reason for reverting the change. So unless there is a valid reason for the revert then I shall restore the change. Mabuska (talk) 19:32, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Apart from WP:UNBROKEN you change was more than controversial since there is an ongoing diplomatic battle over sovereignity. Since the link appears in an article directly related to Argentina I don't see the need for the change.--Jetstreamer Talk 23:25, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That reasoning is as poor as the WP:UNBROKEN one and would fail to stand up to proper scrutiny. If your reasoning that because it is directly related to Argentina then it must use their naming conventions then surely you must change Port Stanley to Puerto Argentino, which is the Argentinian name for the location mentioned in the article, however that would be equally absurd. Then again this article isn't about Argentina, it is about an Argentinian airline, and the incident listed is of one where the plane crashed on the territory of foreign country that is not internationally recognised as part of Argentina. Please keep your personal politics out of Wikipedia. Mabuska (talk) 14:28, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In fact per Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names)#Falkland_Islands then Falklands should be used. This is not a geographical article so inclusion of Malvinas fails that, and the other point is in regards to articles directly about the dispute, which this article also is not. Therefore I will make the change and expect you to abide by Wikipedia protocols and guidelines. Mabuska (talk) 14:33, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It could be argued that the "symbolic invasion" is directly related to the dispute even if the entire article is not so I will concede on that point for the moment and amend it to the suggestion in the naming convention I quoted. And again please abide by Wikipedia protocols and guidelines. Mabuska (talk) 14:35, 23 May 2016 (UTC) Actually guideline says articles that directly relate to the dispute and this one doesn't so I've nothing to concede as this article is about aircraft incidents. Mabuska (talk) 14:40, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The Aviation Safety Network reference uses the name Falklands so the change is ok for me. Separately, I don't see why you mentioned my personal political preferences as I never disclosed them either here or elsewhere in Wikipedia.--Jetstreamer Talk 17:48, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

UTAir 767 and Aerolineas Argentinas A340 incident

[edit]

Hi, can anyone add the runway incursion incident in 2014 involving a UTAir 767 and an Aerolineas Argentinas A340?
