Name of Atlanta Airport in Summary[edit]

For the stopover airport (Idlewild/JFK), the name of the airport at the time is used, but for the final destnation (Atlanta), the current name is used. Shouldn't this be changed so that they both reflect one name (either the current name or the name at the time of the incident)? --Vreddy92 (talk) 03:28, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed that bit. Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 00:30, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

B-class review[edit]

Fails #1: needs more referencing. Fails #2:needs section on investigation, results, causes, etc. Fails #3 :needs formatting to follow standard accidents format. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 03:26, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It shows all of that in the Wikiproject boxes at the top of the page, so do you really need to repeat all that? Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 00:27, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Air France Flight 007?[edit]

Shouldn't this crash be referred to by ts flight number, and called Air France Flight 007? Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 00:25, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The result of the move request was: page moved. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:22, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

1962 Air France Orly crashAir France Flight 007 — I think this page should be moved to Air France Flight 007. This is because the flight number is known (007) and per WP:AIRCRASH, it should be named in the format <<airline>> Flight <<flight number>>, making the name "Air France Flight 007." Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 23:09, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There's a hatnote about it . . . where? --Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 16:57, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Where hatnotes appear, at the top of the article. I see that you are a new user? see WP:HATNOTE. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 05:55, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see a hatnote about it. --Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 20:58, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hatnote[edit]

What do you mean you don't see a hatnote? It's right at the top of the article page, beneath the article/discussion tabs. You even added it yourself, Whoop... , see this edit comparision: [1]

76.66.200.95 (talk) 06:34, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The hatnote refers to flight 007, not flight 7. --Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 22:52, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Flight 00x are sometimes referred to as Flight x, same with Flight 0x and Flight 000x. Like Speedbird 9, which is actually BA 009, but called "British Airways Flight 9". 76.66.200.95 (talk) 12:19, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, then. Should we or shouldn't we create the article? --Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 23:24, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to, go ahead. Registered users can create pages. A flight 7 page would also handle 7, 07, 0007, and this 007. 76.66.199.238 (talk) 06:29, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh-kazay. Wanna help add to it? --Whoop whoop pull up (talk) 23:29, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Name of Atlanta Airport[edit]

I know I brought this up 2 years ago...but now again New York's airport is referred to as Idlewild and Atlanta's is referred to as Hartsfield-Jackson (not its name at the time). Maybe the names should be fixed so that it says Atlanta Municipal Airport (now Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.36.15.133 (talk) 11:39, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The incident in 2011[edit]

There was a much more recent incident involving Air France Flight 007. The flight is now operated by Airbus A380 and operates the JFK-CDG route and on April 11, 2011 its left wing struck the tail of Comair flight 553, which had just landed from Boston. Are you actually comparing a crash in which 100 people were killed, and a ground collision in which nobody has been even hurt? (there were about 27,000 reported ground collisions in 2010). Slasher-fun (talk) 08:19, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What makes you think I'm not? And why are you replying like I don't know anything about air safety?? I am a student pilot. What's next? My legitimate edit being treated like vandalism? (just kidding) I gotta say that it's just a coincidence that an Air France flight with the same flight number as a much more fatal incident, was involved in another incident (not to mention other airlines with flight number 007, such as Korean Air Flight 007, coincidentally had fatal incidents in the past). The Comair flight was evacuated and it was all over the news. But again, I feel like there were some overreaction involved. Some people might look for an article about the 2011 incident and might get confused especially if they have never heard of that 1962 incident. Even though the 1962 flight was a charter, usually airlines retire flight numbers involved in major incidents while the flight flying the same route at the same time is assigned a different number. "And why are you replying like I don't know anything about air safety??" --> Not what I meant.
"My legitimate edit being treated like vandalism?" --> Well the revert button is for reverting, it doesn't imply that it's a vandalism.
"But again, I feel like there were some overreaction involved." --> That's my point. This is only "in the news" because someone caught a video of it.
Slasher-fun (talk) 20:48, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Not what I meant." --> Good.
"Well the revert button is for reverting, it doesn't imply that it's a vandalism." --> Yes, although rollback button is mainly used for reverting vandalism and the undo button is for reverting other edits.
"That's my point. This is only "in the news" because someone caught a video of it." --> Well at least we can agree on this, overreaction has been getting out of control lately. One time there was a storm in my neighborhood where it knocked down trees but there were ****load of police cars driving down my street at 4 AM, all blaring their sirens loudly and it didn't stop for at least 30 minutes. It woke my parents up but at least it didn't wake me up. Another example of such overreaction is the incident of Northwest Airlines Flight 188, where two pilots were so distracted with a discussion of scheduling changes that they overshot the runway by about 150 miles in October 2009. These pilots, both in their 50s, immediately got their pilot license revoked even though they have a clean pilot record and have been flying for airlines since the 1980s. Nobody got hurt, it's just that the plane landed at its destination, Minneapolis, an hour late. Yes, it was annoying to the passengers, crew, ATC and others involved, but the immediate suspension of otherwise good pilots is just too much.
