October 2022

@GreenCows: Why are you insisting on adding a number that is most likely typo? I already explained to you that the number 8,000 can easily be sourced to a multitude of RS. Do you honestly believe that the French destroyed 800 villages between 1957 and 1960 (when the war was as its height) and 7,200 villages (when it was essentially over)? M.Bitton (talk) 15:19, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

I would be surprised if it was a typo because that that would be a major error in the book. I'm not doubting the 8,000 figure. Originally I was thinking that the 800 figure referred specifically to villages destroyed during relocations of entire villages between 1957 and 1960, so it seemed to be a different figure from the 8,000 total villages destroyed from all fighting between 1954 and 1962. Although your reasoning makes me think it could possibly be a typo so I don't mind if its left out of the article unless it can be corroborated by another source. I would also like to point out that the Shillington source doesn't only blame the French for the 8,000 villages destroyed, even if they are clearly mostly responsible, so the wording should be modified to conform with the source or extra sources should be added. GreenCows (talk) 15:43, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
It is clearly an error and the shillington source is only one among many others[1][2] that cite the 8,000 figure and blame the only actor who was "pacifying" the region. M.Bitton (talk) 15:59, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

    Aftermath of the War

    Hello,

I believe this article could potentially benefit from more information on the rebuilding in Algeria following independence. I have already added this information to the article on the 'History of Algeria (1962-1999),' which is linked to this one, so I am not too concerned, but I still think that some information on the process of rebuilding, especially following the removal of the French colonial administration, might be beneficial.

Does anyone think this is needed for this article as well, or is it enough that I have added this information to the 'History of Algeria' article?

Thank you in advance! Z zaher (talk) 19:03, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello! I plan on adding information on this topic to the article. I will plan to draw from what you have added in the 'History of Algeria' article as well as include information on the refugee crisis Algeria faced post independence and how the country's new sovereign government interacted with the United Nations High Commission on Refugees. Mmb2297 (talk) 18:02, 21 March 2023 (UTC)

In the article, there's a weird hyperlink with the text "A Critical Evaluation of Charles De Gaulle's Handling... | 123 Help Me" pointing to the URL https://www.123helpme.com/essay/A-Critical-Evaluation-of-Charles-De-Gaulles-22721

It feels completely out of place as-is.

If it is actually anything relevant, then it should be moved to the sources or external links at the bottom of the page, and it wouldn't hurt if a little bit more context was given about that link (like who is the author of that essay, etc). What is even that obscure 123helpme.com website?

If the link turns out not to be relevant (if it's just the personal opinion of a random anonymous person, if it's information manipulation, etc), then it is not relevant to keep it in the article at all. 37.170.32.90 (talk) 10:46, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

    French Version of This Page

The French-language version of this article entirely removes the section on atrocities, turning it into a sub-heading that fails to detail the allegations of murder of children, systemic rape, and other atrocities with sources outlined in the English version of the article. I will leave an identical comment en French on the other version, I am just hoping someone with dual language can help reformat to correct this error and include missing versions of the same sources. Thank you. 2600:1017:B823:B02B:2D1E:C7E8:30BC:A01F (talk) 17:29, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

    Requested move 30 April

I propose to change the article title from Algerian WartoAlgerian War of independence because it was a war to fight for the independence of Algeria DitorWiki (talk) 03:03, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
