Small capital ʀ

[edit]

Any idea why small capital ʀ, used in IPA for the uvular trill, is taken by the software to be identical with Ʀ and thus redirects users here? I suppose more people are likely to want to find out what the pronunciation symbol is, but fixing this is far beyond my computing literacy. --Thrissel (talk) 20:33, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It’s just what’s traditionally used in the literature regarding Old Norse and Germanic linguistic history. ThaesOfereode (talk) 23:31, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Suffix

[edit]

The word "desinence" is defined in the Wictionary as a technical term from linguistics. The word "suffix" is the standard word used in United States of America in teaching school children. The Wikipedia page "Desinence" is in fact a redirect page to the Wikipedia article "Suffix". Suffix is 150 times more common in use than desinence, according to the books.google.com/ngrams word count of words in over 1,000,000 books. The Wikipedia style page instructs editors to avoid technical language in favor of standard English words. So I made this change. Nick Beeson (talk) 19:14, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite and NPOV

[edit]

This article currently reads like someone's personal essay rather than an objective and up-to-date survey of the matter in runology. There are lots of unsourced statements and, where they occur, frequently they're cited to a 19th century text. The article needs a total rewrite. Unfortunately, many of our articles on runes are in a similar state. :bloodofox: (talk) 04:03, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is the case for 90% of the articles on ancient/medieval Germanic (and Celtic) cultures. I would need several lives to rewrite them all. Alcaios (talk) 21:29, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
