Essay?

[edit]

This article is written in an essay like and as such, I have tagged it for cleanup.Mouse Nightshirt 11:07, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Potential error

[edit]

Short oil alkyds dry faster than long oiled alkyds. The article is wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.167.55.11 (talk) 08:48, 2 September 2008 (UTC) Agreed ! This part is wrong! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.87.70.143 (talk) 19:10, 22 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The article is identical to that at: http://www.articlepros.com/business/Chinese-Marketing/article-493611.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raffinate2 (talkcontribs) 11:00, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the article history, one can see that the content of this article on Wikipedia developed gradually over several years. Therefore it is clear that articlepros.com has plagiarized the Wikipedia article. ChemNerd (talk) 13:52, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Are triglycerides alkyds?

[edit]

The definition given for aklyd seems to include triglycerides (animal and plant fats and oils) but does not come out and say so. In particular, stating that the original alkyds were synthetic seems to deny this fact. Later in the article it is explained how triglycerides are used as the feedstock for making synthetic alkyds. Assuming triglycerides are indeed alkyds, this should be stated just before the "The original alkyds were compounds of..." part, and this sentence should instead read "The original synthetic alkyds were compounds of..." The mention of triglycerides could include common examples such as linseed oil. Conversely, if triglycerides are by convention not considered to be alkyds, the article so state this and ideally explain why. 192.102.11.78 (talk) 15:13, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Major clean up

[edit]

I have worked with alkyds and alkyd paints and varnishes for over 40 years. I will spend time on this article and start cleaning it up. This will not be quick. I have loads of books and journals on the subject so I will also expand the references. GRALISTAIR (talk) 13:59, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

OK I have made a start. I will do references first - added quite a few already. Then I will make less essay like and wikify. GRALISTAIR (talk) 20:42, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am still working on it bit by bit. GRALISTAIR (talk) 15:51, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
