Did You Know

Afact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on March 6, 2019.

The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that four Apollo 11 Fiftieth Anniversary commemorative coins were issued in 2019 to commemorate the first landing on the Moon?

Canadian silver bar/bullion set[edit]

Wehwalt I just found that the Royal Canadian Mintisselling Apollo 11 50th Anniversary set containing an proof Apollo 11 silver dollar inserted into a commemorative silver bullion bar. Do you think this deserves to be mentioned in the article? - ZLEA T\C 19:42, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, you may want to consider changing the title of the article to clarify that it's about the US coins, as other countries are also issuing coins to commemorate the anniversary. - ZLEA T\C 19:46, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'll add something. Surprising this hasn't generated anything in the numismatic press. As for the name what would you suggest?--Wehwalt (talk) 19:51, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly something like Apollo 11 50th Anniversary commemorative coins (United States). - ZLEA T\C 19:55, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As for the numismatic press, the Canada is known for its seemingly endless variety of commemorative coins, much like the US in the 1930s. It looks like the press lost interest in most Canadian commemorative coinage a long time ago. As this is a US coin being resold in a different package, I doubt it will receive much attention. - ZLEA T\C 20:18, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The article[edit]

Wow. Feature worthy. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:34, 7 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. We're waiting for final sales figures before nominating.--Wehwalt (talk) 07:49, 7 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Coin prices[edit]

Wehwalt I think the way prices are recorded in this section might be a bit confusing for some readers. If possible, I would list both the initial and standard prices in the table, with the standard price of the gold coin being both the highest and lowest prices or its average price throughout the year. This would give readers a better idea of what the actual price of the coins were, not just what they were in the first few weeks. Your thoughts? - ZLEA T\C 21:34, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The prices of the gold coins varied and I don't have a complete list of the changes.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:39, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Apollo 11 50th Anniversary commemorative coins (United States)Apollo 11 50th Anniversary commemorative coins – Unnecessary disambiguation. Although the move is technical, I think that it is controversial. Soumyabrata (talksubpages) 09:04, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

2019 Apollo 11 Clad Commemorative Half Dollar Proof w/24K Gold & Black Ruthenium[edit]

I'm wondering if this is a replica coin of the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary commemorative coins or a non-circulated coin that is now sold. Is this not worth adding to this page? I just bought one and it's really a good quality looking coin even if not from the original issue. The description lists this as "The U.S. Mint is limiting this release to a combination of just 750,000 proof and uncirculated coins."

750,000 is the limit on mintage of half dollars overall, which wasn't met. You have a very handsome piece there, but it looks to have been painted/plated post issue. Unless it got some press coverage, I don't think we should add it.--Wehwalt (talk) 21:34, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Curved / concave / convex coin[edit]

Why not have a pic or photo that actually shows the curve/concave/convex of the coin ?

Just curious. 2600:8800:22C:F700:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 14:15, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We don't have one.--Wehwalt (talk) 14:25, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good point though. That was the one thing I was really looking for in this article.
There's a photo on this page that sort of shows the curvature, and because it's a government site, we could use it.
We may also be able to use a frame from this US Mint / NASA video (see 47-50 seconds). ~Anachronist (talk) 16:02, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We could only show the helmet side as the footprint side is copyrighted.--Wehwalt (talk) 20:13, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
