Needs introduction at a comprehension level which does not require knowledge of a specialised area of physics[edit]
Currently this reads like a specialised physics text book. That might be ok in the body text, but it requires a great deal of knowledge understand any part of it, and as such is not "encyclopædic". As a completely random and hypothetical example - how would someone who took physics at a good university 31 years ago work out what "safety" means in this context? I suggest that at least the introduction be re-written to be actually introductory.
