The standard of English in this article is quite poor. Surely the title of the article should be Attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II with or without 1981 in front. I've tried to clean up the first sentence and first heading.212.140.167.9917:24, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Vatican has a prison and the swiss guard, but it is still not enough. the country is simply too small. Therefore, the Italian police are allowed in for crimes like murder and attempted murder. Just pulled the following from the article. Completely unencyclopedic and unsourced. If it weren't so hilariously audacious I would've just deleted it:
Some people think that Pope John Paul II was possessed by Jesus that day, and that the demon Apollyn had possessed Mehmet. The Demon was angry at Jesus, and he wanted Jesus to suffer another Mortal Death. After he shot John Paul, Satan appeared before him and sent him back to hell. After doing that its said, that Satan protected and healed John Paul. Back in hell, Satan explained Apollyn that they should wait until the time was right, before attacking the church. That he only healed John Paul in order for the church not to become suspicious about hell breaking loose on earth. Then, Satan punished Apollyn for being reckless. This is one of the reason that the church forgave Mehmet for the shooting since he was being possessed by evil.

The second person wounded in the assassination attempt has been identified variously as "Rose Hill" or "Rose Hall" and as either a resident of Jamaica or Massachusetts.
