Untitled[edit]

Wonder anybody here have seen this documentary. That would be very helpful because it look very informative. This guy seemed to have commanded a ship named Godspeed. The trip seem to have been headed by a ship named Susan Constant, commanded by Christopher Newport who kind of doomed the whole group. Warning, this information is single sourced, i could be terribly wrong. Pandon me for possible spelling mistakes, kind of in hurry. [1] Other interesting stuff Jamestown, Virginia. By the way, could this have something to do with thanksgiving celebration in US?

BTW: the link to the Gosnold overview is fascinating

=[edit]

Rijrunner here.. The first English Thanksgiving was done in the Popham colony in Maine in 1607. They were the other colony attempted that year in North America. Gosnold is a fascinating person. He was the central hub to the whole Jamestown colony.

1st Recorded European Expedition....[edit]

Gosnold himself states (through the Relation of Brereton) that they came upon six Indians in a Basque shallop (boat. Gosnold thought at first that the Indians were 'Europeans, distressed' since some were also wearing European clothing. The Indians also communicated with European words. This lead to the line in the Relation 'they seemed to understand more (during the conversation) than we did'. So we have the Vikings (Y1K) to the European fisherman and other explorers on the East Coast of America before Gosnold's well recorded voyage.

Elizabeth Islands[edit]

Article states that the Elizabeth Islands are "near" Gosnold, Mass. The Islands ARE the Town of Gosnold. See Wikipedia article "Elizabeth Islands". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Curmudgeonly Pedant (talkcontribs) 01:10, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Coat of Arms[edit]

These are not the coat of arms of Bartholomew Gosnold. These are the arms of a knight and Gosnold was never knighted. You can tell because of the knight's helm above the shield. If you are not a knight you don't get a knight's helm in your coat of arms. Therefore they are not his arms. They might be the arms of a male ancestor. Most likely this is a fantasy coat of arms using the Gosnold family shield and crest adding the knight's helm to make it look more prestigious. I suggest rechecking the source carefully.
