Tommy Atkins reference[edit]

I have removed the uncited reference claiming the origin of the 'Tommy Aktins' nickname to this battle, as it conflicts with a cited reference in the Tommy Atkins page claiming the first use of the name in 1743. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GlosterBoy (talkcontribs) 12:26, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sharpe...[edit]

There are several references of in the Battle in the Sharpe books.

"2nd Brigade"[edit]

According to Fortescue ('The British Army in Flanders'), the 33rd were assigned to the 2nd Brigade with the 8th and 44th Regts in July 1794 but on 29th August the Duke of York re-organised his army to incorporate reinforcements and the 33rd were assigned to the 3rd Brigade with the 12th, 42nd and 44th. This was the formation, commanded at Boxtel by Wellington as senior colonel, in which the 33rd served from September 1794 until at least early January 1795. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JF42 (talkcontribs) 21:02, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article Expansion[edit]

I've added several new tracts and further detail on the action, including a more detailed breakdown of the Hessian garrison, identifying these and French commanders, Marulaz's role against the Hessian infantry, some pulled quotes from Lieu Powell's diary etc., and reference to the 2011 excavations.Bwcajp (talk) 16:39, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"The British were able to continue their retreat northwards under the command of William Harcourt"[edit]

While the subject of the article does not merit detailed discussion of the subsequent phases, this precis risks being brief to the point of being misleading as it omits any mention of the final four months of the campaign over the autumn and winter of 1794-1795, before the defence of the Netherlands was finally abandoned and the allies withdrew to Germany.

In addition, the retreat was in fact more eastwards into Westphalia. The overall commander was Count Walmoden although for form's sake. the British contingent received their orders via Harcourt. JF42 (talk) 08:38, 15 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
