Rock climbing or not

[edit]

User:Jeremy Hoffstead, User:Jon698, User:Billmckern, this needs to be hammered out on the talk page. I'm reading over the history, and this has some convincing elements--not to mention that she's not notable for rock climbing and the secondary sourcing is not strong at all. Drmies (talk) 17:27, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Drmies:, @Jeremy Hoffstead:, @Jon698: The question isn't "For what is she notable?" Obviously that's state senator and congressional candidate. The question is "What did she do earlier in her career?" Taught school, taught rock climbing, etc. Pat Leahy's not notable for going to St. Michael's College. He's notable for being a U.S. Senator. But his pre-Senate life is still included in his bio. Jim Jeffords wasn't notable for being in the Navy in the 1950s. he was notable for his Congressional career. But his Navy service is still included in his bio. All that said, I'm not inclined to argue about this. Billmckern (talk) 17:40, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If something is well-sourced, it means that reliable sources found it worth noting. The content you added here--the rowing and running is sourced to the Barnard yearbook and the Smith website, and to an article in a local paper she wrote herself; and all that climbing and teaching, the best source there is this piece, another local publication doing Positive Human Factoids, besides her own writing and her government page. If that whole "moved to Vermont" paragraph were seriously shortened I could live with it. Drmies (talk) 17:47, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
