Initial posts[edit]

I have merged Belfry (architecture) into this article. Coffee 20:11, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is a Dutch language old historical text, describing how the "oorkondes" (official bulls?) are kept in the belfry (belfort in Dutch) in Ghent. The website of the city of Bruges [1] (also in Dutch) states that the archive was located in the belfry until a fire in 1741. This tourist info sites also relates the archive function of the belfry of Ghent. This site contains more general info on the use of the Belgian belfries as archives. I cannot find immediately a serious historical peer reviewed article in English which gives this info, but if you feel that one of these links is adequate, feel free to add it! Zvonička[edit]

In the Czech terminology, "zvonice" is ordinarily named a freestanding building near the church. The diminutive word "zvonička" is used for simplex posts, pillars or very small buildings (a very small chapel) which stand singly (in villages where is no church). Which is the right English special word for such objects? --ŠJů (talk) 14:38, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed two images where we cant say if they are "zvonička". Well the collegue discription is not well, because this『zvonička』is a free standing construction which doesnt belong to the church, while in the village may be a church. Then "zvonice" is for sure connected with a church and it is freestanding.--Juan de Vojníkov (talk) 15:53, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Too many images[edit]

While a small gallery might be appropriate for this article, there are currently far too many images, particularly as the captions don't indicate they are being used to illustrate something encyclopaedic, different architectural features or styles, for example.
