An article from the Business Insider reported that Virgin Galactic flew the company’s SpaceShipTwo more than 50 miles above the surface of planet Earth on December 13, 2018.

Sir Richard Branson owns the Virgin Galactic Company, space tourism company which is part of the Virgin Group (United Kingdom) and headquartered in the United States. The Virgin Space Ship (VSS Unity) was launched from a Mojave Desert airfield in California and reached an altitude of 270,000 feet. This is 11 mile short of the Karman Line which is 62 miles high.

Virgin Galactic competes in the global space race with the SpaceX of Elon Musk and Blue Origin of Jeff Bezos. Branson founded Virgin Galactic in 2004. The first test of SpaceShipTwo took place in 2007 but an accident resulted in the death of three company workers.
