history?[edit]

Does anyone have a source discussing when this body was created? Some Google-Books searching suggests it's been around since at least the 1960s, but I can't find specific information on its origin. --Delirium (talk) 21:06, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This 2004 House document that presents the Rules of the House says that the rule creating the Office of General Counsel and defining the membership of BLAG was "adopted initially" on Jan. 5, 1993.
There's a mistaken entry that displays 1961 in the hitlist of Google Books results like this "United States. Congress. House of Representatives - 1961 - Preview", but if you look at that hit, it's another edition of the Rules from 2002.
What do you have that suggests something earlier than that? Or did that bogus 1961 mislead you? Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 22:44, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good catch; yeah, that's the one, as well as several other bogus results that show 1970s dates. Your source's 1993 date looks solid. Perhaps that should be added to the article? Also, it'd be interesting to know if the body did anything noteworthy between 1993 and the first thing we mention it doing here, intervening in the 2009 William Jefferson case. --Delirium (talk) 15:07, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 17:33, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
