POV?[edit]

(Transferred from my talk page) - User:Ali-oops

Hello. It is POV to say that his actions were "egregious" (Wordnet: conspicuously and outrageously bad or reprehensible). Wikipedia is not here to judge what is "outrageously bad"; we present information in an npov way and try to not abuse adjectives. You can leave it up to the reader to judge whether his actions were "egregious" (and especially whether they were the most egregious). I'm not defending his actions, but if we present the facts, then readers should be able to judge for themselves that he was egregious without us preaching it to them. 24.224.153.40 00:15, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Falsehoods[edit]

The statement in the article that Smyth raped and sexually abused hundreds of boys between 1945 and 1989. seems clearly to be false. No reference at all is provided for this amazing statement, apart from vague reference to a book that has been accused of dishonesty. Alliance Support The only information I can find states that Smyth "abused and indecently assaulted" (not "raped") 20 children in that period. Irish News I have replaced this information in the article. Xandar 23:13, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This statement is inaccurate, only citing the Irish News, it does not account for the many victims of Brendan Smyth in the United States. When I came forward and reported to the Diocese of Providence in Rhode Island in 2006 I was informed by the Vicar General that I was the sixth victim to come forward. I later discover that another came forward one month later, making 7, and I located two more, making nine. Then there were a dozen or more in the Diocese of Fargo, North Dakota. So this writer is off on the numbers. 71.88.41.131 (talk) 14:43, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I updated the number to "an estimated 90 children" from today's Irish Independent. Bokononist (talk) 19:24, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move request[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was move per request. I have faith our Australian brothers and sisters would not disagree. WP:PRIME is an objective standard that is entirely neutral as to nationality.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:43, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Brendan Smyth (priest)Brendan Smyth – This person has caused a good deal of controversy, his activities have rocked the head of the Roman Catholic church in Ireland, he is the primary meaning. The Australian politician looks like a rather minor figure, the Australian Capital Territory is a pretty small territory, he should be dealt with by a hatnote. PatGallacher (talk) 20:13, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
