Gross / Net[edit]

The article mentions twice the amount of money paid to Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. Out of curiosity, do we know approximately how much it cost the duchy to recruit, equip, transport, and pay the forces sent to North America? Or what economic effect was caused by sending so many people overseas? I've searched some of the references I have, but I haven't found this information. It would be interesting to note the cost of war, if anyone has done the calculations. Canute (talk) 18:06, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The amount is mentioned twice, once in the lead and once in the main text with a citation. I am pretty sure it was good business for the rulers who provided the troops; the burden was born by the taxpayers and the soldiers sent abroad. In the case of Hesse-Hanau this small state used the subsidies it got from Britain for extensive modernizations with the erection of significant buildings in the capital. Creuzbourg (talk) 19:49, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The lede says Great Britain paid『Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel a total of £750,000 for the use of his army,』which is the same number used in the Numbers subsection. But this is not the profit, this is just the payment (gross income, if you will). The article doesn't mention cost. I haven't found it in the sources I have, I'm just curious if anyone else has seen an estimate on the expenditures. It would be very interesting to see what the actual profit (or net income) was for supporting Great Britain. Canute (talk) 22:48, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
