Changing the title

[edit]

I am considering a change to the title of the article to bring it to more of an unbiased introduction.

My current suggestion would be NORTH AMERICA CENTRAL TIME ZONE (UTC-6) Bubbalicious82 (talk) 16:53, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Upon further inspection, I would like to change my suggested title to CENTRAL TIME ZONE (UTC-6) Bubbalicious82 (talk) 20:38, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely not in all-caps, per Wikipedia:SENTENCECASE. As to your earlier suggestion, having both 'North America' and '(UTC-6)' is redundant, so only one of them would be possible. Finally, any name change has to follow Wikipedia policy on WP:Article titles; on what policy basis are you in favor of a change? Do you believe that the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the term Central Time Zone is something other than this article? Or is there some other reason?
Finally, you say, "I am considering a change", and by that, I hope you mean you wish to propose a change, and not that you plan to make such a change yourself. If you have read the policy on WP:Article titles, and the WP:MOVE procedure and you believe a move (= 'title change') is warranted, then please see the procedure at WP:RM#CM for how to proceed. Mathglot (talk) 22:39, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response and insight. Definitely not all caps, I should have better researched how to ask this question. It is a proposal. Other nations have a central time zone, by adding UTC-6 it would designate which central time zone this article is specifically addressing. Bubbalicious82 (talk) 01:52, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please give specifics. First, what other countries? Secondly, even if there are, when you find the term central time zone in English books and other reliable sources, is it always about those other countries? Always about North America? About half and half, or some other split? As the person who wants to change long-term consensus usage, the burden is on you to demonstrate that the title should be changed. A persuasive argument would be to demonstrate that there is no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the expression central time zone, or that the primary topic is not the North American central time. Can you do that? As a counterclaim, I would say that there is a primarytopic for central time zone, and that topic is the one in North America, and therefore the current title meets WP:PRECISE and WP:CONCISE and should not be changed. I don't have to prove that with data, because that's the current consensus title, but you do, if you want to change it. But use data and policy to show me that I'm wrong, and I'll vote in favor. Mathglot (talk) 07:28, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot do that. It is so nuanced and in so few countries I would be creating a point of confusion. The Lead clarifies any ambiguity that may be presented. A Title change is not necessary. Bubbalicious82 (talk) 16:45, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the Lead

[edit]

The Lead has a few attention worthy edits. I am removing "C" from the abbreviations because it is very U.S. specific and adding a citation for "CT."

I am adding the UTC-5 and UTC-6 designations to the paragraphs, along with citations.

I am removing "summer" because it does not represent the information correctly and I am adding in the actual dates between CST and CDT.

I am removing the paragraph about Mexico City because it does not belong in the lead. It slows down the progression of the article even though it is an interesting tidbit of information. Bubbalicious82 (talk) 21:37, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ending Daylight Saving Time

[edit]

The US is also seeing traction in the same direction with the Sunshine Protection Act that proposes legislation that would permanently end daylight saving time

- Reading the article for the Sunshine Protection Act makes it sound like the goal is to end standard time and move to daylight saving permanently, not end daylight saving time as this article suggests. 2600:1700:F270:8F8F:4576:9996:17F8:4F93 (talk) 00:57, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
