Chitral State

[edit]

The information on the State of Chitral should be a separate page, like that of the other Pakistani States and should include a list of the rulers. The sections HISTORY, CHITRAL STATE and KATUR DYNASTY should form a separate page.-Fred

There will be State of Chitral page when I have sufficient information and time. Green Giant 03:25, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Official Language

[edit]

Languages of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (Pakistan Census 1998) http://www.pbs.gov.pk/sites/default/files/other/yearbook2011/Population/16-20.pdf — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tigerkhan007 (talkcontribs) 12:08, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The official written language for Chitral State used to be Farsi, still spoken by many Chitralis, and Farsi was the language used for diplomacy and for communicating with forigners.

Khowar is the language of Chitral, but it was not a written language until the 1920's.-Fred

I have tried to talk about the incorrect map being used with everyone, but no one has been able to provide any rationale on why the districts such as Battagram, toorghar, Shangla, Buner, Tank, Karak, etc are shown as Hindko and saraiki speaking when the text states that most of the population their speaks pashto. And also this is a matter of general knowledge that most of the population in the above mentioned districts speaks pashto. Moroever, due to this incorrect and biased map there is a contraditcion between the text and the map being used on the same articale. Therefore, i have replaced this incorrect map with a more accurate one. This will not only make the page more representative of the reallity but will also make wikipedia more reliable. Tigerkhan007 (talk) 11:14, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Osama?

[edit]

The Osama bin Laden article says he may be hiding near Chitral. Shouldn't this be mentioned? WikiMarshall 17:04, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, because the article says Chitral is one of two popular assumptions and gives two citations, one of which alludes to unverifiable reports by shopkeepers and the other mentions Chitral in passing. If you can provide a reliable neutral source to prove that bin Laden is in Chitral, then by all means let's include it. Green Giant 22:42, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lowari Pass

[edit]

"To the south, the dangerous Lowari Pass (3,200 m or 10,499 ft) leads 365 km (227 mi) to the region of Peshawar; this now has a jeep road." I went over the Lowari Pass nearly 20 years ago in a minibus and it was fine. OK you had to get out and walk a bit in places but I would have thought that that was the principal route from within Pakistan (and therefore from anywhere). I don't remember it being dangerous, or no more than any road journey in the region.

I wondered about that myself -- I went over in 1999 and it seemed fine. I'll take out the "dangerous" and revise the sentence. -- Danny Yee 07:45, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am too happy that laweri pass may be after two year after we will be across under the tana.it is very nice and lucky any person across over it. because it is very beautiful.[shafiq rahman from mastuj] email mtgh-2004@yahoo.com

It certainly is dangerous. A few people are killed every year by avalanche crossing Lowari Top. Did you bother to look at the high mountains on each side when you crossed? If an avalanche started coming at you, where would you run? Sam Sloan 12:07, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bin Laden

[edit]

I removed the sentence: "Osama Bin Laden was living there according to a news in Pakistani Paper Dawn http://www.dawn.com/2007/09/09/top9.htm" because it is inaccurate. The Dawn newspaper never reported that "Osama Bin Laden was living there." Rather, it reported that "US experts have claimed" that Osama Bin Laden was present in Chitral. This article was written by "Our Correspondent" and identifies neither the so-called U.S. experts nor the time period during which Osama Bin Laden was present in Chitral. This is why I removed it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.48.230.34 (talk) 06:03, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Charun-Oweer

[edit]

The section covering this village is too detailed for an article that is meant to be about Chitral city. There's enough material here to split it into a new article, linked from this article, but it lacks any sources whatsoever. It also requires some clarification of names and rewriting from a neutral point of view in some parts. Dendrite1 (talk) 01:45, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly remove this portion or make a new article as it is too detailed and unnecessarily long. User:Tonyjones101 —Preceding undated comment added 11:03, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Polo

[edit]

Polo has been played in Chitral since time immemorial and their is no reference of Sher Anchan introducing the sport here. If anything polo went from West to East rather than East to West because the sport originated in Persia, to which Chitral is nearer rather than Baltistan, originally Balti-Yul, a traditional part of Tibet. I am deleting the reference to Anchan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 39.47.162.122 (talk) 16:13, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Town or District?

[edit]

This is supposed to be the article about the town of Chitral, but some recent edits seem to have introduced material which should be in the article on Chitral District. I have removed the material obviously about the district or the state, but there seems to be some remaining confusion, e.g.

This page has been hit, among others, with what appears to be number vandalism. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 20:21, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There is a confirmed case of sock-puppetry involving multiple user-accounts and likely IPs here. Feel free to fix anything that looks bogus (alt accounts of blocked editors are subject to reversion, with page-protection and/or account blocking easily available too...ask me or another admin for assistance if needed). DMacks (talk) 20:25, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's worth noting, though. that some official information may not be accurate. This web site gives the same latitude and longitude for each of the Union Councils in the map, and the areas given for some of them seem to be wrong. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 21:06, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Historical inaccuracy

[edit]

There’s not a single source which claims for Chitral to have been ceded to Mauryans. The Shunga empire was centred in the Gangetic basin and There are no hindu temples or forts in Chitral Mehtar10 (talk) 07:41, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
